Our most eventful week at church so far

11 February 2007
  1. We hit 5 at prayer meeting on Wednesday. What a precious time. Exhortation from Psalm 37.
  2. Had an informal barbeque on Saturday. 19 from the neighbourhood including our family. Koi was the only non-neighbour. A very relaxed and good time. Thought the 3 Chiangrai girls might not come as we had a fairly intense witnessing time with them over Christmas.
  3. All our worship services so far haver been very enriching. The spirit has been excellent and today was no exception. Jack Samajitrungruang gave a moving testimony of God’s goodness since joining the army last October. He has been allowed to continue his studies by God’s Great Grace.  He was in danger of losing his scholarship if he had continued in the army.  He will elaborate more in his testimony later on.
  4. George McBride, a Navigator missionary,  gave a pointed message on Heaven and Hell from Luke 16. We are praying for the salvation of Apple’s mom and younger sister.
  5. Pat cooked fellowship lunch at our place for the 1st time, taking a break from packet lunch.

God’s Word is a lamp to guide us to Righteousness

9 February 2007

NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (ps 119:105).

(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; (2 cor 10:4-5).

The Lord Jesus said…“I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” (Joh 8:12).

God’s Word is the light that illumines the truth.  It brings to light false thinking and helps to correct wrong thinking.  The Lord Jesus is the Light in this dark world.  The Bible is the means by which we come to know about the Lord Jesus Christ.

Light #1 We are of Great Value because we have a soul.
Our Soul makes us different from the animal kingdom.  God’s Word tells us that God breathed into man whereas did not have such a privilege.

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (gen 2:7).
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. (mt 10:30).
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? (mt 6:26).
For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my motherีs womb. I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Thy works, And my soul knows it very well. (Ps 139:13-14).

Light #2  Love drives out fear.
When we approach God, Christians do so out of love rather than fear.  Because we are able to have a relationship with our Heavenly Father, this allows us to respond in love.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. (1Jo 4:18).

No more Fear of Death
People often fear death or the afterlife.  The Lord Jesus promises us eternal life.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? (Joh 11:25 -26).

No more Fear of Demons
What a privilege not to fear evil spirits or demons any longer.
It’s easy for us to check.  if you give offerings to appease the spirits, you are not responding out of love, then you know something is wrong.  Contrast that with knowing our Heavenly Father out of Love.

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (1 jn 4:4).
And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. (luk 10:17-20).

Light #3    A Definite Future
Destination Heaven:  God promises a definite future, a definite address, a definite place to be.  We are not worried about wandering about the earth with no place to go.  God tells us where we will be if we are in the Lord Jesus Christ.

In my Fatherีs house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (Joh 14:2 -3).
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. (2Co 5:8).

An Expected End
God does not leave us hanging on false hope, He makes it abundantly clear that He thinks of His Children with Love and has a definite destination point for them.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive. (Jer 29:11-14).

Dear Friend,

If you have never trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord, why not do so today.  God simply asks us to:

Acknowledge that we are sinners.  Rom 3:23
Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.  Rom 10:9-10
Confess our Sins to Him. 1 John 1:9

God promises that if we have the Lord Jesus Christ in our hearts, we are no longer lost but have eternal life (John 3:16, 1 John 5:11-12)

To God be the Glory.
